‘Milk’

Gus Van Sant directed this biographical look at Harvey Milk (Sean Penn), the first openly gay man elected to become a San Francisco supervisor, which brings him in conflict with fellow supervisor Dan White (Josh Brolin).

Running time/rating: 2:08; rated R for language, sexual content, brief violence

What they’re saying: “While ‘Milk’ tells an ultimately tragic story, it is … entertaining for a ‘statement’ film. With the combination of Van Sant’s direction and Penn’s masterful performance, it’s moving, and important, as well.” – Bill Goodykoontz, Gannett News
