Lenten gatherings planned

Now that Lent is under way, several Valley churches are hosting weekly Lenten gatherings to help people prepare spiritually for Easter. The gatherings will continue until Holy Week, the final few days before the celebration of Christ’s resurrection.

• Peace Lutheran Church will host a Taize worship service at 7 p.m. each Wednesday. The services of candlelight, silence and Scripture readings will be preceded by a soup supper at 6. The church is at 4124 N. Harvard Road. Call the church office at 922-9021 for more information.

• Millwood Community Presbyterian Church will host a Lenten class each Wednesday through Lent. The evenings will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a light supper; the class will follow. The church is at 3223 N. Marguerite Road. Call the church at 924-2350 for more information.

• Zion Lutheran Church, 8304 E. Buckeye Ave., will offer a special Lenten program for children in pre-kindergarten through the fourth grade as well as a Lenten worship service each Wednesday. The service will begin at 6:45 p.m. each Wednesday, preceded by a soup supper at 6. The children’s program will be offered during the service three times – on Wednesday, Feb. 20 and March 12. • St. Mary’s Catholic Church will host a fish fry dinner Fridays during Lent through March 14. The meal will be served from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. and will be followed by the Stations of the Cross and Benediction at 7. The church is at 304 S. Adams Road. • Potluck soup suppers will be held at 6 p.m. each Wednesday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 810 S. Sullivan Road. The suppers will be followed by a Holden Evening Prayer service at 7. Call the church at 926-8611 for more information.

Spaghetti dinner

St. John Vianney Catholic Church will host its annual fundraiser spaghetti dinner Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the parish hall. The meal will include spaghetti and meatballs, salad, rolls, dessert and beverages. Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and children age 6-12. Kids under 6 are free.
