Boilermakers remain hot

Robbie Hummel scored a career-high 24 points and No. 19 Purdue (20-5, 11-1 Big Ten) beat No. 10 Michigan State (20-4, 8-3) 60-54 Tuesday night in West Lafayette, Ind.

Hummel, a freshman, also grabbed 11 rebounds and made 4 of 7 3-pointers.

E’Twaun Moore scored 12 points and Keaton Grant added 11 for Purdue, which won its 10th straight game to remain alone in first place in the Big Ten. The Boilermakers have won at least 20 games for the second straight year.

Michigan State guard Drew Neitzel, the team’s second-leading scorer, was held scoreless in the first half and finished with six points.

It was Purdue’s second straight win over a Top 25 team – the Boilermakers won at Wisconsin on Saturday.

(5) North Carolina 75, Virginia 74: At Charlottesville, Va., Tyler Hansbrough scored 27 points, including a critical baby hook with 21 seconds to play and the Tar Heels (23-2, 8-2 ACC) once again survived a challenge before holding on in a win over the Cavaliers (11-12, 1-9).

(9) Butler 83, Wisconsin-Milwaukee 75: At Milwaukee, Mike Green scored 10 of his 24 points in overtime and had 13 rebounds and eight assists despite spraining his right ankle to help the Bulldogs (22-2, 11-2 Horizon League) rally to beat the Panthers (12-11, 7-6).

(22) Pittsburgh 82, Providence 63: At Pittsburgh, Sam Young scored 22 points and the Panthers limited the Friars to six points in the opening 11 minutes of the second half, allowing Pittsburgh to pull away for a victory.

Ronald Ramon hit five 3-pointers while scoring 15 points and physical freshman DeJuan Blair proved a difficult matchup inside for Providence with 15 points and seven rebounds.

(23) Louisville 88, DePaul 68: At Rosemont, Ill., Terrence Williams tied a season-high with 22 points and David Padgett set one with 20 to lead the Cardinals (19-6, 9-3 Big East) over the Blue Demons (10-14, 5-7).

(24) Vanderbilt 93, Kentucky 52: At Nashville, Shan Foster scored 20 points and A.J. Ogilvy added 19 points and 12 rebounds as the Commodores (21-4, 6-4 SEC) handed the Wildcats (12-10, 6-3) a loss.

Women

(2) Connecticut 80, Georgetown 48: At Storrs, Conn., freshman Maya Moore scored 25 points to lead the Huskies (23-1, 10-1 Big East) to a rout of the Hoyas (18-6, 8-3).

Tina Charles added 19 points and Renee Montgomery had 14 for Connecticut.

(10) Oklahoma 68, (20) Texas A&M 55: At Norman, Okla., Courtney Paris scored 20 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, Jenna Plumley had four 3-pointers and 18 points and the Sooners (18-4, 8-2 Big 12) beat the Aggies (17-7, 5-5).

It was the 83rd double-double in a row for Paris, and the 88th of her career.
