Maple Leafs rally past Bruins

Associated Press The Spokesman-Review

Darcy Tucker scored his second goal of the game 3 minutes, 39 seconds into overtime to give the Toronto Maple Leafs a 4-3 win over the Boston Bruins on Saturday in Toronto.

Tucker charged hard to the goal and tipped Alex Steen’s pass by Tim Thomas.

Dominic Moore and Nik Antropov also scored for Toronto. Dennis Wideman, Glen Murray and Zdeno Chara replied for the Bruins.

Tucker converted a cross-crease pass from Mats Sundin at 14:18 of the final period during a 5-on-3 power play to tie it at 2.

Less than 2 minutes later, Tucker fooled Thomas by skating behind the goal but leaving the puck for Antropov, who scored his 20th of the season at 16:09.

The victory lifted the Leafs out of the Eastern Conference basement, but they’re still nine points back of Boston for the last playoff spot.

Rangers 5, Sabres 1: At New York, Sean Avery scored the first of his two goals 10 seconds in, and Brandon Dubinsky had a goal and two assists for the Rangers, who chased goalie Ryan Miller in the first period and routed Buffalo.

Devils 3, Senators 2: At Ottawa, Arron Asham scored two goals and Paul Martin had two assists to help New Jersey beat the Senators.

Zach Parise scored the other goal for the Devils.

Hurricanes 5, Panthers 4: At Raleigh, N.C., Ray Whitney scored with 4:21 left and Carolina rallied from a two-goal deficit in the third period, beating Florida to extend its home winning streak against the Panthers to 13 games.

Islanders 4, Thrashers 1: At Uniondale, N.Y., Rick DiPietro came up 77 seconds short of a shutout, and the Islanders set franchise records for fewest shots allowed and shot discrepancy in New York’s win over Atlanta.

DiPietro needed to stop just nine shots, while the Islanders pelted Kari Lehtonen for 49.

Coyotes 4, Kings 3: At Glendale, Ariz., Radim Vrbata scored a power-play goal with 7:06 to lift Phoenix to the victory over Los Angeles.

Ed Jovanovski added a goal and two assists for the Coyotes.

Capitals 3, Lightning 2: At Tampa, Fla., Alexander Semin scored the go-ahead goal with 3 minutes left in the third period and Washington beat Tampa Bay.

Canucks 4, Oilers 2: At Vancouver, British Columbia, Markus Naslund scored the opening goal and helped set up Daniel Sedin’s winner 7:45 into the third period, lifting the Canucks to a rough, fight-filled win over Edmonton.

Predators 2 Blues 1 (OT): At Nashville, Tenn., Shea Weber scored 40 seconds into overtime and the Predators beat St. Louis.

Marek Zidlicky passed the puck to Weber high in the slot. Weber blasted the one-timer past St. Louis goaltender Manny Legace high to his glove side.
