Red Wings end skid as Avalanche fall
Chris Osgood stopped 18 shots for his 47th career shutout, Henrik Zetterberg scored two goals and the Detroit Red Wings snapped a six-game losing skid, beating the Colorado Avalanche 4-0 on Monday night in Denver.
Chris Chelios scored his first goal in four months and Valtteri Filppula had a power-play goal in the opening period for Detroit.
The Red Wings swept the four-game season series with Colorado. It’s only the second time Detroit has swept the Avalanche since they moved to Denver in 1995-96.
Zetterberg’s goals came 2:16 apart in the second period, his 34th and 35th of the season. He’s tied with Jarome Iginla for third place in goals. Pavel Datsyuk had three assists, giving him 51 this season and a share of the league lead.
Colorado scored just two goals against the Red Wings this season with Dominik Hasek, who’s currently out with a hip injury, picking up two shutouts.
Nicklas Lidstrom suffered a knee injury early in the first period when he was checked into the boards by Ian Laperriere. Lidstrom, who came in leading all defenseman with 57 points, hobbled off the ice – with the assistance of a referee – and didn’t return.

Islanders 3, Sharks 2: At Uniondale, N.Y., Freddy Meyer capped the Islanders’ three-goal third-period rally with 8:41 left, taking advantage of injured San Jose goalie Evgeni Nabokov, in New York’s victory over the Sharks.

Marcel Goc and Joe Thornton scored for the Sharks.
Coyotes 4, Kings 0: In Los Angeles, Radim Vrbata scored a goal, assisted on two others and Phoenix beat L.A. for Wayne Gretzky’s 100th victory as coach.
Phoenix won its third in a row, and its 31st victory matched the team’s win total from last season. The Coyotes are 6-0 against Gretzky’s old team this season.
Mikael Tellqvist stopped 33 shots for his sixth career shutout starting in place of Ilya Bryzgalov.
