Vanek leads Buffalo past Tampa Bay

Thomas Vanek scored three consecutive goals, including the winner 2:35 into overtime, to rally the Buffalo Sabres to a 4-3 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Wednesday night in Buffalo, N.Y.

Derek Roy had a goal and assist while Tim Connolly had three assists as the Sabres came back from a 3-1 third-period deficit.

Devils 3, Sharks 2: Newark, N.J., John Madden and Sergei Brylin scored 1:10 apart during New Jersey’s three-goal second period, and the Devils took advantage of backup goalie Thomas Greiss and beat San Jose.

Islanders 3, Capitals 2 (SO): At Washington, Mike Comrie scored the only goal of the shootout, and New York pushed their winning streak to a season-high five games with a victory over the Capitals.

Blackhawks 3, Wild 0: At Chicago, Nikolai Khabibulin made 38 saves for his first shutout in nearly a year and rookie Dave Bolland scored two goals to lead the Blackhawks over Minnesota.

Flames 3, Stars 2: At Dallas, Jarome Iginla scored the go-ahead goal with 2:27 remaining to lift Calgary to victory over the Stars.

Ducks 3, Avalanche 2 (SO): At Anaheim, Calif., Corey Perry scored the deciding goal in the shootout as the Ducks rallied for a victory over Colorado.

Off the ice

Detroit Red Wings star Nicklas Lidstrom expects to be out for three weeks with an injured right knee he suffered earlier this week after being slammed into the boards by Colorado’s Ian Laperrier. … Tampa Bay defenseman Brad Lukowich will undergo surgery to repair a sports hernia on Friday, and is expected to miss four weeks. … Dallas center Stu Barnes will miss a week to 10 days following surgery to repair a partially torn retina.
