Seahawks sell out Saturday’s game

The Seattle Seahawks’ NFC wild-card game against Washington at Qwest Field at 1:30 p.m. Saturday is a sellout.

The team announced that between 5,000 and 6,000 single- game tickets that went on sale Monday morning, were sold out in 15 minutes.

The NFC West champion Seahawks list a sellout for Qwest Field, their home field, at 67,000. The team has sold out 44 consecutive home games.

No 10th year for Ravens’ Billick

Brian Billick was fired as coach of the Baltimore Ravens less than a day after his team concluded a disappointing 5-11 season.

Billick, 53, won the 2001 Super Bowl in his second season with the Ravens, and led the team to a franchise-best 13-3 record in 2006. But Baltimore lost a team-record nine consecutive games this season before ending the skid Sunday with a 27-21 win over Pittsburgh.

Billick’s nine seasons with Baltimore – he had an 80-64 record – was tied for the third-longest current run as coach with the same team. He took the Ravens to the playoffs in 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2006, but Baltimore won only one postseason game since its Super Bowl run after the 2000 season.

Parcells fires GM Mueller

Bill Parcells, who began Thursday as executive vice president of football operations, started his shakeup of the Miami Dolphins by firing general manager Randy Mueller.

Mueller, a native of St. Maries and a former Seattle Seahawks director of player personnel, was the Dolphins’ general manager for three seasons but was in charge of personnel decisions only since coach Nick Saban left a year ago.

Mueller received mixed reviews for his moves in 2007, none of which could avert a 1-15 season.

Dayton joins poll, its first since 2003

Dayton was impressive with its road win over Louisville. The Flyers went a lot further with their 25-point rout of previously unbeaten Pittsburgh last weekend, a victory that moved them into the Associated Press’ Top 25 for the first time in four years. They joined the poll at No. 20.

“That kind of win was maybe shocking to everybody, including myself, but I hope the ranking is for the 12-game body of work to this point of the season,” Dayton coach Brian Gregory said.

North Carolina remained No. 1, a spot it has held since the preseason poll. Memphis and Kansas stayed second and third for the fifth straight week, and Washington State and UCLA held fourth and fifth for a second week.
