Maple Leafs avoid Lightning strike at home

Scott Clemmensen stopped Brad Richards and Martin St. Louis in the shootout to help the Toronto Maple Leafs secure a 4-3 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday in Toronto.

Tomas Kaberle and Mats Sundin scored for the Maple Leafs, who won their first shootout game of the season.

Sundin, Jason Blake and Hal Gill also had goals in regulation for Toronto.

Andreas Karlsson, Martin St. Louis and Paul Ranger scored for Tampa.

Kings 9, Blackhawks 2: Ladislav Nagy and Alexander Frolov both had a five-point game and Los Angeles routed visiting Chicago.

Nagy finished with three goals and two assists, while Frolov had a pair of goals and three assists.

Former Spokane Chiefs goalie Jason LaBarbera stopped 31 of 33 shots on goal for the Kings.

Capitals 6, Senators 3: Mike Green had two goals and an assist, Michael Nylander and Brooks Laich both added a goal and an assist and Washington defeated Ottawa in Washington.

Green, Nylander and Laich each scored during a four-goal first period for Washington, which beat Ottawa for the second time in four days.

McCrimmon promoted

The Thrashers promoted Brad McCrimmon to associate coach in a move that could pave the way for him to take over for Don Waddell, Atlanta’s general manager and interim coach.

Waddell moved to the bench after firing Bob Hartley after a 0-6 start.
