Ducks surprise Wildcats on road
Malik Hairston tied his career high with 29 points and Oregon shot 56 percent from the field Saturday to beat No. 21 Arizona in Tucson, Ariz., for the second year in a row, 84-74.
The Ducks (10-4, 1-1 Pac-10) led by as many as 19 in the first half and the Wildcats (10-4, 1-1 Pac-10) never got closer than five in the second.
Chase Budinger scored 30, two shy of his career best, for the Wildcats, who were without their leading scorer and point guard Jerryd Bayles for the third straight game because of a sprained right knee.
Hairston, one of the Ducks’ four returning starters, was 11 for 17 from the field, 3 of 5 from 3-point range.
Overall, Oregon was 10 of 21 on 3s, compared to Arizona’s 5 of 21.

Love scored 13 of his 19 points in the first half and grabbed 14 rebounds for his seventh double-double, and the Bruins (14-1, 2-0) beat the Golden Bears (10-3, 1-1) in Berkeley, Calif., to complete a sweep of the Bay Area schools in the opening weekend of conference play.

The Cardinal avoided losing consecutive home games to open the conference season despite shooting a season-low 27 percent and committing 19 turnovers.
The Trojans were just as bad on offense, committing 23 turnovers and shooting 35 percent in scoring their fewest points this season. Mayo, who averaged 20.6 points in his first 13 games, finished with 14 on 5-for-19 shooting.
