Jargon 2.0

Folksonomy. (n.)

When you go to a social bookmark site, such as Digg or Newsvine, and have the option of tagging information there with keywords (using tags such as “Windows tips” or “Tax information”), you’re using a system some call folksonomy. A fancier term is collective tagging. Here’s the use of the word in the folksonomy entry on Wikipedia: “Folksonomies can be seen as a rejection of the search engine status-quo in favor of tools that are created by the community.”
