Britney Spears will have to wait for some public tough love from Dr. Phil McGraw.

The psychologist/TV talk host has backed down from his intended interview with Spears’ parents on his show today.

In a statement on his Web site, McGraw explained:

“As was widely reported this weekend, at the request of concerned family members, I visited Britney Spears in the hospital. The details of that visit will, of course, remain private.

“We had planned to tape a ‘Dr. Phil Now’ show tomorrow, focusing not on the tabloid side of Britney’s latest problems, but instead on the very serious issues surrounding this case.”

However, he said, “Because the Spears situation is too intense at this time, and out of consideration to the family, I have made the decision not to move forward with the taping at this particular time.

“Britney and her family are in our prayers, and we ask that they be in yours.”

Spears was hospitalized Thursday night after a child custody dispute with ex-husband Kevin Federline resulted in an hours-long standoff with police.

Her little flower child

Elisabeth Hasselbeck returned to “The View” on Monday with her newborn son, Taylor Thomas, in tow.

Hasselbeck and co-host Sherri Shepherd took turns holding the 2-month-old, who cried at first, but was generally well behaved.

“You don’t even look like you were pregnant,” Shepherd said. “You are so tiny.”

Replied Hasselbeck, who wore a waist-concealing dress with a floral pattern: “Wear a print.”

Fruit of the Poppy

Elsewhere on the celebrity baby beat, “Without a Trace” star Poppy Montgomery has announced that she and her actor boyfriend, Adam Kaufman, welcomed a son, Jackson Phillip Kaufman, last month.

And funnyman Jack Black says his wife, cellist Tanya Haden, is pregnant with their second child. They have a 1 1/2 -year-old son.

Gunpowder and grapeshot?

How about a sip of Kerosene?

That’s one of the wines being marketed by country singer Miranda Lambert‘s family that are named for her songs.

Two new varietals – Gunpowder & Lead and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend – will be available next week when Lambert releases her “Gunpowder” single, from the “Crazy” album.

His blues-swayed due

A Mississippi Blues Trail marker will be placed at Elvis Presley‘s Tupelo birthplace today, which would’ve been his 73rd birthday.

“By all accounts, Elvis Presley was the single greatest influence on modern-day rock ‘n’ roll in America, and much of his musical inspiration drew on the Mississippi blues,” Gov. Haley Barbour said.
