Hornets keep Sonics reeling

Peja Stojakovic scored 23 points, leading six Hornets in double figures, and New Orleans easily defeated the Seattle SuperSonics 123-92 on Wednesday night in New Orleans.

Tyson Chandler had 14 points and 21 rebounds and Chris Paul had 12 points and 11 assists. It was the 12th time they’ve had double-doubles in the same game this season, and New Orleans has won all of those games.

David West also hit double digits in two columns, with 19 points and 11 rebounds.

Kevin Durant led Seattle with 20 points, while Earl Watson added 17 and 11 assists for the Sonics, who’ve lost three straight and 10 of 11 games. Seattle was simply overmatched in falling 20 games lower than .500.

New Orleans, which has won three straight and nine of 11 games to keep pace with the leaders in the Western Conference, hit 12 3-pointers as a team, four by Stojakovic.

New Orleans’ reserves, playing most of the fourth quarter, finished with 52 points.

The Hornets dominated most categories, outrebounding Seattle 53-41 and outshooting the Sonics 51.6 percent to 43 percent. The Hornets had a 52-42 advantage on points inside and their 13 offensive rebounds helped produce a 20-9 margin on second-chance points.

Wally Szczerbiak had 14 points and Kurt Thomas 12 for Seattle.

Celtics 100, Trail Blazers 90: At Boston, Ray Allen scored a season-high 35 points, Kevin Garnett had 26 and the Celtics rebounded from their first consecutive losses of the season to beat Portland.

Brandon Roy led the Trail Blazers with 22 points.

Knicks 111, Nets 105: At East Rutherford, N.J., Jamal Crawford scored a season-high 35 points and hit a tiebreaking 3-pointer, leading New York to a win over New Jersey that gave the Knicks the season series for the first time in eight years.

Bobcats 99, Magic 93: At Charlotte, N.C., Gerald Wallace had 36 points and 14 rebounds, Jason Richardson hit a 3-pointer and four free throws in the final minute, and the Bobcats rallied from 19 points down in the third quarter to beat Orlando.

Pacers 125, Warriors 117: At Indianapolis, Danny Granger scored 29 points, Mike Dunleavy had 24 points and nine rebounds and Indiana overcame a 17-point deficit in the second half to beat Golden State.

Bulls 126, Heat 96: At Miami, Ben Gordon scored 24 points, Joe Smith added 23 and Chicago handed the Heat their 11th straight loss.

Shaquille O’Neal had 24 points and 10 rebounds in his return to the lineup for Miami.

Raptors 116, Kings 91: At Toronto, Chris Bosh had 31 points and the Raptors spoiled Mike Bibby’s season debut, beating Sacramento.

Bibby, who missed 36 games with a torn ligament in his left thumb, finished with 19 points and six rebounds.

Bucks 87, Hawks 80: At Milwaukee, Andrew Bogut tallied 21 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots to power the Bucks to a victory over Atlanta.

Marvin Williams hit 10 of 11 free throws and scored 22 to pace Atlanta.

Iverson donates $100,000

Denver Nuggets guard Allen Iverson is donating $100,000 to support the Newport News, Va., Police Department’s “Gun Buy Back” program, U.S. Rep. Robert C. Scott announced.

Iverson, a Virginia Peninsula native, pledged support for the program in a statement issued by Scott’s office.

“I have made this contribution because I want to make a difference and I hope that others join me,” said Iverson.
