The Spokesman-Review

Liberty Lake police made nine arrests the week of Jan. 7-14, including several for drug possession. “We did have a couple more than usual,” said Police Chief Brian Asmus.

Police pulled over a car for reckless driving on Jan. 10 at 10 p.m. on Barker Road at Interstate 90. The driver, identified as Matthew C. Stockton, 26, of Florence, Ariz., was wanted on warrants for assault, malicious mischief and criminal trespass out of Spokane. Police found heroin in the car and charged Stockton and his passenger, 18-year-old Zachary A. Hale, of Mesa, Ariz., with possession. Stockton also faces charges of reckless driving, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with a suspended license, Asmus said.

During the week police also arrested Ashley M. Clevenger, 22, of Spokane on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Todd M. Cramer, 26, of Post Falls, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

On Jan. 8 police received a call at 6:30 p.m. about a man prowling the parking lot of Big Trout Lodge, across the street from the Police Department, Asmus said. Police stopped James H. Wilson, 18, and discovered he was wanted on a warrant for theft out of Spokane. Wilson, who was arrested, said he is a transient living in Spokane.

On Jan. 9 at 11 p.m. police stopped a man on Harvard Road for riding his bike without a headlight. The man, identified as Shawn R. Cottingham, 18, of Otis Orchards, was arrested on warrants for driving without a valid license and first-degree criminal trespass.

A few arrests were also made for traffic infractions. William F. Baumgartner, 27, of Spokane, 22-year-old Ashley G. Norton, of Liberty Lake, and 59-year-old Leonard C. Vanke of Post Falls, were all arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license.

In addition the department was called to two domestic violence incidents, a traffic accident and one impounded vehicle. Police handed out three citations for having no liability insurance, two speeding tickets and one ticket for having lamps of an incorrect color.
