Sabres drop 10 on Thrashers
Drew Stafford and Derek Roy had hat tricks and the Buffalo Sabres routed the Atlanta Thrashers 10-1 Friday night in Buffalo, N.Y., to end a 10-game winless skid.
Thomas Vanek, Jochen Hecht and Ales Kotalik each had a goal and two assists for the Sabres, who got off to a fast start with four goals in the first period.
Ducks 4, Wild 2: At St. Paul, Minn., Todd Bertuzzi scored twice, Ryan Getzlaf had three assists, and Anaheim’s streaking top line lifted the Ducks to a victory over Minnesota.
Panthers 2, Devils 1: At Newark, N.J., Radek Dvorak and David Booth scored early in the third period to lift Florida to a win over New Jersey.
Backup goalie Craig Anderson made 31 saves for the Panthers.
Hurricanes 7, Oilers 2: At Raleigh, N.C., Eric Staal scored three goals, one on a penalty shot, and Carolina routed Edmonton to snap its season-worst four-game losing streak.
Rod Brind’Amour added a goal and two assists for Carolina.
Lightning 3, Penguins 0: At Pittsburgh, Sidney Crosby badly sprained an ankle that may keep him out a month or more and Andre Roy led Tampa Bay to take advantage of his absence with a victory over the Penguins.
Roy had a goal and two assists.
Blackhawks 2, Avalanche 1 (SO): At Denver, Robert Lang and Patrick Kane scored in a shootout to lift Chicago to a win over Colorado.
•Blackhawks forward Jason Williams will be out at least six weeks after surgery to repair a sports hernia.
Flames 6, Kings 1: At Calgary, Alberta, Daymond Langkow scored three goals to help the Flames move into first place in their division with a win over Los Angeles.
Langkow scored once in each period, finishing the third hat trick of his career by deflecting Adrian Aucoin’s slapshot 2:03 into the third period.
