The Slice

The Spokesman-Review

Parents wanting to teach their kids right from wrong could use Les Koller’s petunias as an example.

Koller is a North Side resident who noticed that someone had dug up and removed half a dozen petunia plants from his yard.

It’s anybody’s guess as to why someone would have committed this unauthorized act of landscape harvesting. But poor parenting certainly seems like one possible explanation.

So if you have children who still listen to you, it might be a good idea to go over the concept of personal property. You could pose it as a question.

“A man has six petunias in his yard. He likes how they look. Would it be OK to secretly dig up these flowers and walk off with them?”

If your children say, “No,” give yourself a gold star.
