Starz brings Miley Cyrus’ concert film

From wire reports

The hit “Hannah Montana” concert movie will be nearly inescapable on television this month, in every dimension.

“Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert” will come to Starz in both standard- and high-definition starting July 26, the premium cable channel announced Thursday.

The 3-D version of the film, which had a limited-engagement theater run earlier this year, will begin showing on the Starz on Demand and Starz HD on Demand channels on July 27.

Disney Channel previously announced that the movie’s network TV debut also is set for July 26, preceded by a daylong marathon of episodes of the channel’s “Hannah Montana” series starring teenager Cyrus.

Cyrus’ new album, “Breakout,” will be released July 22. And filming is under way on “Hannah Montana: The Movie,” set for release in summer 2009.

Return to Ozzy

America’s favorite family – circa 2002 – is returning to prime time with a new variety show.

Fox has ordered six episodes of the tentatively titled “The Osbournes: Loud and Dangerous,” a new half-hour variety series hosted by Ozzy Osbourne, wife Sharon Osbourne and kids Jack and Kelly.

The show will combine musical performances, comedy sketches and game-show competitions with “the Osbournes’ unique blend of humor and outrageous sensibility.”

“The Osbournes” premiered on MTV in 2002 and pioneered the dysfunctional famous family reality TV genre that later turned its eye to clans fronted by the likes of Hulk Hogan and Gene Simmons.

More to see on AMC

AMC, home to the fully realized 1960s world of “Mad Men,” has another period piece in its development pipeline.

The cable channel is working on turning Glen David Gold’s novel “Carter Beats the Devil,” about a 1920s magician who becomes implicated in the death of President Warren G. Harding, into a series.

AMC also is developing “Ice,” a drama about a family of diamond merchants.

And production begins this month on the second season of “Breaking Bad,” with star Bryan Cranston directing the first episode.
