Indians post late rally

Spokane humbles Bears reliever Morgan

YAKIMA – Patience paid big dividends for the Spokane Indians on Thursday night.

The Indians scored one run in the seventh inning and erupted for four in the eighth to claim a 5-4 Northwest League baseball win over the Yakima Bears at County Stadium.

Yakima (12-18) starter Terry Hose was dominant for seven innings, giving up one run – a Matthew West two-out RBI double in the seventh – on four hits and striking out three with no walks.

When Hose exited to start the eighth inning – replaced by Sean Morgan – the floodgates opened. Morgan walked the first three batters to load the bases – and mixed in a wild pitch – before Cody Podraza singled to score two runs and bring Spokane (23-7) to within 4-3.

Exit Morgan, enter Jordan Meaker.

After a Jason Ogata flyout, Joey Butler singled to score two more runs and Spokane snatched victory in the first game of the three-game set.
