Second banana still has appeal

Ed McMahon (Associated Press / The Spokesman-Review)

Ed McMahon is back on late-night TV.

The former “Tonight Show” sidekick has filmed four comical commercial segments for “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” the first of which aired Monday night on the ABC show.

In the ads for Pontiac, McMahon and Kimmel point out the various amenities of the Pontiac G8, G5, G6 and Vibe.

One of the spots features McMahon – who once pitched Budweiser and the American Family Publishing sweepstakes – teaching Kimmel how to sell a product. Another has the duo preparing for a road trip to Mexico.

“It felt very good to be out of the brace and working again,” says McMahon, who recently underwent a third neck surgery.

The 85-year-old former “Star Search” host is embroiled in a lawsuit against Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, two doctors and the owner of a home where he says he fell during a dinner party in March 2007.

Last month he revealed he was fighting foreclosure after falling $644,000 behind on mortgage payments on his Beverly Hills home.

“I’m sure things are going to work out,” McMahon says.

The latest word on Grammer

Kelsey Grammer, who had a heart attack last month, was hospitalized in New York over the weekend after feeling faint.

A publicist for the 53-year-old former “Cheers” and “Frasier” star says it’s possible his medication led to his symptoms.

Grammer, promoting his new film, “Swing Vote,” canceled a scheduled appearance this morning on “Live with Regis and Kelly.”

Out of his skull?

Shia LaBoeuf is recovering from knee, hand and head imjuries after a car crash that led to his arrest for suspicion of drunken driving.

Authorities said the 22-year-old “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” co-star was trying to make a left turn at a West Hollywood intersection around 3 a.m. when his pickup collided with another vehicle.

A woman passenger in LaBeouf’s truck and the other driver were not seriously injured.

Doubleheader for Romijn

It’s going to be twins for “Ugly Betty” co-star Rebecca Romijn and her actor husband, Jerry O’Connell, her publicist said Monday.

The couple are expecting the babies, their first children, this winter.

Going to the chowhounds

Celebrity chef Rachael Ray has launched a line of dog foods based on recipes she created for her pit bull, Isaboo.

Ray, who came to fame with her “30 Minute Meals” Food Network show, said all of her proceeds from sales of Rachael Ray Nutrish pet foods will go to Rachael’s Rescue, which she founded to help at-risk animals.
