Space drone breaks type in ‘Eureka’

By MIKE HUGHES Gannett News Service

Tonight’s must-see

“Eureka” season-opener, 9 p.m., Sci Fi.

To test antiaircraft guns, the company has space drones. The drones always lose, sort of like the opponent in Harlem Globetrotter games.

Then one wins – and terrorizes the town. The sheriff must figure out what went wrong.

“Eureka” episodes vary from loose and whimsical to dead-serious. Last season’s strong finale (rerunning at 8 p.m.) was serious; so, mostly, is this a fairly good hour.

Tonight’s must-see II

“House,” 9 p.m., Fox. Mira Sorvino made a guest appearance in this strong hour, which debuted after the Super Bowl.

She plays a doctor in Antarctica, stricken with a mysterious ailment. (OK, all “House” ailments are mysterious.) Dr. House must come up with a long-distance diagnosis.

Other choices include

PBS’ “Nova,” 7 p.m., KSPS; 8 p.m. KUID and KCDT. The “Car Talk” guys are emerging as summer stars on PBS. Tonight, “Nova” reruns their amiable look at new auto ideas. Their offbeat cartoon is at 8 p.m. on Wednesdays.

“Ocean of Fear” (8 p.m.), “Dirty Jobs” (9) and “How Not to Become Shark Bait” (10), Discovery Channel. “Shark Week” continues, includes a new “Dirty Jobs” that views Greenland sharks.

“America’s Got Talent,” 9 p.m., NBC. Tonight’s hour views people who originally auditioned on MySpace. Yes, “Talent” is taking its time; it will return after the Olympics, continuing into October.

PBS’ “Wide Angle: Lord’s Children,” 9 p.m., KSPS, KUID, KCDT. Until recently, this film says, children as young as 5 have been kidnapped by a rebel army in Uganda. As many as 30,000 became soldiers or sex slaves. This film introduces three who escaped and are in rehab.

PBS’ “POV: Campaign,” 10 p.m., KUID, KCDT. This documentary follows one guy entering Japan’s unique electoral system. He starts with no experience, supporters, charisma or time, but has the support of the ruling party to run for a seat on the Kawasaki City Council.

“Without a Trace,” 10 p.m., CBS. Life is dangerous on the outside, too. An ex-con vanishes after a prison visit.
