Five first-time homeowners will receive new sod, trees, and shrubs at their homes from volunteers beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday during the Takoda Park Community Partnership Day.

The event is coordinated by Community Frameworks and marks the 25th Annual National NeighborWorks Week, and begins at noon. A picnic celebration with the homeowners will follow.

Takoda Park is a 28-home affordable housing community in the Cheney School District developed through Community Frameworks’ HomeStarts self-help homeownership program. Over the past decade, HomeStarts has completed more than 150 new homes and condominiums. In June each year, the network celebrates National NeighborWorks® Week with projects that engage community volunteers to revitalize neighborhoods and support homeownership efforts around with nation. Auction to benefit former athlete

A benefit auction will be held Saturday for former Ferris High School student and athlete Brooke Blevins, at 7 p.m. at Consumer Auto Liquidators, 10828 Highway 2, Airway Heights.

Blevins recently had surgery on a noncancerous brain tumor that has left her unable to work during her recovery.

Auction items include a week time share in Mexico, and an evening at the Davenport Hotel. The event also includes a car show.

Tickets are $20 per person or $30 for a couple, sold at the door.
