Don’t forget about dad

The Spokesman-Review

Guys are supposed to be easy, right? Compared to Mother’s Day, Father’s Day generally doesn’t have all the pressure of roses, chocolate and finding the perfect gift. At least that was my experience as a child.

But now that my own husband is a father, celebrating the holiday isn’t quite as straightforward for me. I just never know what to get or how to celebrate “Dad Day.”

Here’s our attempt so far … My kids love crafts, so my four-year-old and I checked out some ideas online. I think we have settled on making a paperweight with the message, “Dad Rocks” – made out of a rock, of course.

All we need now is to figure out what to do on June 15 – go camping, go for a hike, sign him up for the Canoe Classic along with a friend?

How about you? Do you already have Father’s Day plans? How do you usually celebrate this holiday?

Camp deadline coming soon

Twelve students from (entering) grades 6 through 12 will be selected to attend a weeklong day camp at The Spokesman-Review.

The journalism camp will be sponsored by the Vox, the student publication published by The Spokesman-Review, and will be an opportunity for students to become familiar with the field of journalism.

Students selected will receive instruction in news writing, journalism ethics, reporting, photojournalism and editing. One goal of the weeklong project will be to produce a package of pages to be published in The Spokesman-Review.

Camp will be at the downtown Spokesman-Review building, Aug. 11 through 15, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lunch and snacks will be provided and there is no charge for participants.
