Monday’s National League results
Giants 3, Nationals 2: At Washington, San Francisco came alive in the fifth inning against starter Tyler Clippard, making a one-game visit from Triple-A, and the Giants beat the Nationals. Consecutive hits by Ray Durham, Randy Winn and Bengie Molina chased Clippard to help the Giants sweep the four-game series. Matt Cain allowed one run and eight hits over 61/3 innings for the Giants. Clippard allowed three runs and five hits with four walks and six strikeouts in 41/3 innings in his Nationals debut.
Pirates 5, Diamondbacks 3: At Pittsburgh, Randy Johnson limited the Pirates to six singles and struck out three in 52/3 innings but was hurt by three errors as Pittsburgh beat Arizona. Johnson walked five, with four going on to score. Zach Duke gave up two runs, including one Mark Reynolds homer, in six-plus innings for the Pirates. Relievers Damaso Marte and Tyler Yates shut down potential Arizona late-inning comebacks as the teams split the four-game series. Matt Capps pitched the ninth for his 15th save in as many chances.
Reds 9, Marlins 4: At Miami, Ken Griffey Jr. hit his 600th career home run off Florida lefty Mark Hendrickson in the first inning of Cincinnati’s victory against the Marlins. Paul Bako had his first career multihomer game – three-run and two-run shots – and Brandon Phillips added a solo homer in support of Edinson Volquez, who gave up three runs in six innings. Hendrickson allowed six runs – five earned – and five hits in 21/3 innings. First baseman Mike Jacobs homered for the Marlins.
