R-Hawks win opener
Greg Lagreid’s eighth-inning double scored Rob Folsom from first base with the winning run as the visiting Spokane RiverHawks won their West Coast Collegiate Baseball League opener Friday with a 2-1 victory over the defending-champion Moses Lake Pirates.
Three RiverHawks pitchers combined for 12 strikeouts.
A.J. Proszek started and pitched five innings for the RiverHawks, giving up the Pirates’ lone run while striking out five.
Aaron Guinn got the win with three innings of one-hit relief and also struck out five Pirates. Jake Hiatt picked up the save with a scoreless ninth, fanning two.

The Vancouver Whitecaps Residency defeated the Spokane Spiders 2-0 in USL Premier Development League play at Simon Fraser University at Burnaby, British Columbia.
Vancouver raised its record to 4-1 overall, 3-0 in PDL play. Spokane fell to 2-6-1, 2-2.
The Spiders play at Abbotsford today.
