NWC grad completes basic training

Air Force Airman 1st Class Nathan Robar recently graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.

He is the son of Scott and Merilee Robar of Spokane and is a 2007 graduate of Northwest Christian School in Colbert.

Susan Patchen has been promoted to the rank of command sergeant major in the Army.

Patchen is a command sergeant major for the 2nd Infantry Division, Camp Red Cloud, Uijong-Bu, South Korea. She has served in the military for 24 years.

She is the daughter of Dale and Rosella Patchen of Airway Heights.

•Eastern Washington University announced local students awarded scholarships for the 2008-09 academic year.

Amy Fox received a $2,500 Academic Honors Scholarship. She is the daughter of Peter and Gail Fox of Spokane and graduated from Valley Christian School in Spokane Valley.

Kevin Merritt was awarded a Keith Kelley Scholarship for $1,200. He is a graduate of Ferris High School and the son of David and Kathy Merritt of Spokane.

Phillip Roy was awarded a $2,700 LeMaster and Daniels Scholarship for $2,700. He is a graduate of Christian Liberty Academy and is the son of Clay and Mary Roy of Spokane.

•Washington State University recently awarded scholarships to local students.

Luke Mohr was awarded a $20,000 National Security Education Program David L. Boren Undergraduate Scholarship. He is the son of William Mohr of Rathdrum and Julie Cordes of Newport, Wash., and graduated from Newport High School in 2004.

Morgan Yearout was awarded a $1,000 Pete Harman Scholarship. She is a 2007 Moses Lake High School graduate and the daughter of Jim and Anjee Yearout of Moses Lake.

Dana Johnson received a $1,000 Marriott/Cody Rickert Memorial Scholarship. She is the daughter of Kenneth and Penny Johnson of Moses Lake and graduated from Moses Lake High School in 2007.

Rachel Shaw was also awarded a $1,000 Marriott/Cody Rickert Memorial Scholarship. She graduated from East Valley High School in 2005 and is the daughter of Gerald and Diane Shaw of Spokane.

Lauree Crane received a $1,500 Henry and Myrtle Green Endowed Scholarship. She is the daughter of Charles and Melinda Crane of Spokane and a 2007 graduate from Shadle Park High School.

Matthew Trainor was awarded a $1,000 Don and Julia Scholarship and a Clare Siler Smith Scholarship for $1,000. He is the son of Dennis Trainor of Chattaroy and Marsha Bown of Spokane and is a 2001 graduate of Mt. Spokane High School.

Marianne Groves received a $1,000 Science Opportunity Scholarship and a $2,500 University Achievement Award. She graduated from Cascade High School in 2001 and is the daughter of Gary and Diane Groves of Colville.

Yanek Kondryszyn received a $1,000 scholarship through the College of Engineering and Architecture at WSU. He is a graduate of Central Valley High School.

•Local students were awarded scholarships by Potlatch Corp. for the 2008-09 academic year.

Megan Carroll and Kayla Leitzke, both of Coeur d’Alene, are graduates of Lake City High School.

Emily Leach of Hayden graduated from Lakeland High School.

Kiersten Black of Spokane is a graduate of Mead High School.

Sean Campbell and Lacey Johnson, both of Post Falls, are graduates of Post Falls High School.

Jonathan Binschus and Rochelle Griffith, both of Spokane, graduated from Rogers High School.

Danielle Warner of Spokane, is a graduate of West Valley High School.
