Wednesday’s interleague results
Giants 4, Indians 1: At Cleveland, Barry Zito finally got an interleague win for San Francisco, pitching the Giants to a victory over the Indians. Zito allowed one run and four hits in 6 2/3 innings, striking out four without a walk.
Red Sox 5, Diamondbacks 0: At Boston, in a matchup for the aged, 41-year-old Tim Wakefield outpitched 44-year-old Randy Johnson and the Red Sox beat Arizona. Brandon Moss drove in the two runs for Boston.
Nationals 5, Angels 4: At Washington, Jesus Flores lined an RBI single to right-center field with one out in the bottom of the ninth to give the Nationals a victory over Los Angeles.
Rays 15, Marlins 3: At Miami, Carl Crawford had two home runs and a career-high five RBIs, and the first nine Tampa Bay batters reached and scored in what became a 10-run fifth inning in the Rays’ win over Florida.
Royals 4, Rockies 2: At Kansas City, Mo., Luke Hochevar pitched a career-high eight innings, Ross Gload drove in two runs and the Royals beat Colorado for their fifth straight victory.
Reds 6, Blue Jays 5 (10): At Toronto, Jay Bruce drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly in the 10th inning, Ken Griffey Jr. hit a home run and Cincinnati got the victory over the Blue Jays.
Yankees 10, Pirates 0: At Pittsburgh, Joba Chamberlain was dominant in his first major league win as a starter and New York bounced back from one of its worst losses of the season, routing the Pirates.
Rangers 3, Astros 2: At Houston, Max Ramirez got his first two major league hits and the second one – a two-run homer – gave Texas the victory over Houston. Miguel Tejada grounded out with the bases loaded in the ninth inning to end it.
Cubs 7, Orioles 4: At Chicago, Geovany Soto drove in three runs, Jim Edmonds homered and the Cubs jumped on spot starter Matt Albers early and went on to beat Baltimore. Jay Payton hit a pair of two-run homers off Chicago starter Ted Lilly to lead the Orioles.
Phillies 4, Athletics 0: At Oakland, Calif., Kyle Kendrick pitched eight strong innings, allowing just four hits in the longest start of his career, to help Philadelphia end a season-long six-game losing streak with a victory over the Athletics.
Dodgers 5, White Sox 0: At Los Angeles, Eric Stults pitched his first career complete game and capped a three-run fourth inning with a sacrifice fly, leading the Dodgers to a victory over A.L. Central-leading Chicago. Stults scattered four hits, struck out three and walked one.
Twins 9, Padres 3: At San Diego, Greg Maddux’s winless streak reached nine starts, the second-longest drought of his brilliant career, and Minnesota beat the Padres for its eighth straight victory.
Tigers 8, Cardinals 7: At Detroit, Gary Sheffield’s RBI single in the bottom of the ninth gave the Tigers a win over St. Louis in a game that included a nearly 2 1/2 -hour rain delay. Sheffield, who came off the disabled list Tuesday, and Carlos Guillen each had four hits for Detroit.
