Parsons sisters finish 7th

Twin sisters Haley and Mandy Parsons of Spokane had twin final scores as they tied for seventh place at the Washington State Amateur Golf Association Women’s Amateur Championship with 54-hole totals of 245 at Sunland Golf and Country Club in Sequim, Wash., Thursday.

Mandy shot an 82 and Haley an 83 on the final day to place 16 strokes behind champion Stephanie Corey of Seattle. Corey, bound for Gonzaga University, won the title by six strokes with a final-round 72 for a 229 total. Her 72 was the only under-par round of the tournament.

The Parsons sisters are University HS graduates and have just completed their sophomore seasons at Washington State University.

•Richard Lee of Covington, Wash., set a course and tournament record with a 10-under-par 62 during the third round of the WSGA Men’s Amateur and leads second-place Jarin Todd of Woodinville, Wash., by five shots going into the final round at The Links at Moses Pointe in Moses Lake.

Joel Dahmen of Clarkston was alone in fifth place after a 67 left him at 213. Geno Bonnalie of Lewiston is at 216, Cameron Whittle of Moses Lake at 220 and Ryan LaRue of Spokane at 226.

Soccer

The Spokane Spiders lost their sixth consecutive Premier Development League match with a 1-0 defeat at the hands of the BYU Cougars at Spokane Falls CC.

The match’s lone goal came at the 60th minute. Richie Bitner’s shot was blocked by Spiders goaltender Scott Barnum, but the ball fell at the feet of BYU’s Zach DeFrancis who put the ball into the net.

The Spiders are 2-10-1.

Arena football

The Spokane Shock added wide receiver Etu Molden to their roster. He spent four years with the Chicago Rush of the Arena Football League. He was in one game with the af2’s Stockton Lightning this season before being injured.

•Former Washington State player Chris Jackson, a wide receiver with the AFL’s Philadelphia Soul, has been named to the All-Arena first team.
