World Harmony Run

The World Harmony Run (formerly the Peace Run) will pass through Sandpoint on Sunday.

The global torch relay was founded in 1987 by the late Sri Chinmoy, who dedicated his life to advancing the ideals of world harmony. Simultaneous events occur in some 100 nations throughout North and South America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia.

A community potluck picnic on Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. at Sandpoint’s City Beach will feaure musical performances by Cairde, the Red Hawk Project, the North Idaho Orthodox Chorale, Jackie Henrion and the Albeni Falls Pipe and Drum Corps.

There also will be a poetry open mike and other events for adults and children. All are welcome; bring picnic-type food, along with plates, cups, silverware and napkins.

Vacation Bible school

Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 639 Elm St., Cheney, will present “The Trek: Because the Adventure Never Ends …” from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday for children in grades one through six.

“St. Rose of Lima Church, 460 N. Fifth St., Cheney, in conjunction with Emmanuel Lutheran and Lutherhaven Ministries, will offer a similar vacation Bible school from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on the same days for children ages 3 through 5.

Hope Lutheran Church, 17909 E. Broadway Ave. in Spokane Valley, will host a VBS session July 14 through 18 from 9 a.m. to noon each day.

The theme of the school, for children age 4 through the sixth grade, is “Friendship Trek: Jesus, Our Forever Friend.”

There is no charge, but donations will be accepted. Call the church at (509) 924-1630 to register.

Concerts and films

Unity Church of Truth, 2900 S. Bernard St., will present Leela and Ellie Grace in concert today at 7 p.m.

The sisters will sing and play multiple instruments.

Spokane Valley United Methodist Church, 115 N. Raymond Road, will show a family movie and dish up some popcorn today at 6 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
