Delgado sends nine home
Carlos Delgado set a New York Mets record with nine RBIs in the opener of Friday’s two-ballpark doubleheader against the New York Yankees.
Delgado had nine RBIs in a four-inning span at Yankee Stadium.
He hit a two-run double in the fifth off Dan Giese, then his 12th career grand slam in the sixth, a drive against Edwar Ramirez. Delgado added a three-run homer in the eighth off Ross Ohlendorf, his 13th home run of the season.
Dave Kingman drove in eight runs for the Mets in an 11-0 victory at the Los Angeles Dodgers on June 4, 1976.

Corey Prugh wins in Oregon
Corey Prugh of Manito G&CC captured the Oregon Open Invitational on the first playoff hole Thursday at Aspen Lakes CC in Sisters, Ore. Prugh and Birk Nelson tied at 211 in the 54-hole tournament. Prugh took home the winner’s purse of $4,000.
Prugh’s father, Steve, tied for 30th at 220. Other local golfers competing included Adam Syverson (224) and Gary Lindeblad (226) of Indian Canyon GC and Mark Poirier (229) from The Creek at Qualchan.

Ah, the life of a celebrity.
Former Idaho linebacker David Vobora, the last pick in the NFL draft, has been dubbed Mr. Irrelevant and is being feted this week with a variety of events in Southern California. Here is the note we received from Vobora on Friday:
“Sorry I haven’t been able to get more to you. I have literally had ZERO time. I am leaving right now to go to the Playboy Mansion. I will get you everything tomorrow morning.”
