New regulations cause concern
BOISE – The director of an Idaho nonprofit organization says she’s concerned with new guidelines the Idaho Foodbank has adopted for sorting food.
The guidelines rely on visual inspections instead of expiration dates stamped on the products.
Rowena Pineda directs the Idaho Community Action Network, which distributes food from the Idaho Foodbank, and says the new guidelines should be further defined.
Pineda says the quality of visual inspections can vary from person to person.
Idaho Foodbank vice president of operations Roy Lacey says the organization made the changes after consulting other regional food banks, food producers and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
