The Modern Electric Water Company has dropped it electric usage rate by 4 percent effective March 1.

The reduction comes from operation efficiencies and a reduction in the wholesale power cost from the Bonneville Power Administration. The board of directors recently voted to pass the savings on to customers.

Businesses invited to event

Businesses are invited to participate in the fifth annual Spokane Valley Open for Business fair March 26 at the Mirabeau Park Hotel, 1100 N. Sullivan Road.

The event is limited to 100 exhibitors. It is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Cost is $300 per table. Contact the Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce at 924-4994 for more information.

Dog jumping contest

Grab Fido’s leash and get ready for the annual DockDogs jumping contests at the Big Horn Outdoor Adventure Show March 20 through 23 at the Spokane County Fair and Expo Center.

Events are planned each day in indoor big air, speed retrieve and extreme vertical. Any dog may enter. Cost is $20 per dog for big air, $24 for speed retrieve and $30 for extreme vertical. Pre-registration deadline is March 17. Call 487-1106 to register or for more information.

Join the Flying Irish Club

The Flying Irish Running Club is beginning its third season today with a kick-off event at 6 p.m. at O’Doherty’s Irish Grille at 525 W. Spokane Falls Blvd.

The club meets at 5:45 p.m. each Thursday through Thanksgiving for a 5K run that begins and ends at the pub. Walkers are welcome.

After six runs, participants earn a free T-shirt that entitles them to discounted food and drink after each run. There is no charge for joining the club. Call 747-0322 for more information.

Friends of Turnbull plan auction

The second annual auction by the Friends of Turnbull to raise money for the environmental education program at Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge is set for 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Northern Quest Casino.

The $25 admission fee includes hors d’oeuvres, a raffle ticket and bid card. A no-host bar is available.
