Hoyas win Big East
For the first time in school history, Georgetown has back-to-back Big East regular-season titles.
DaJuan Summers hit a 3-pointer with 40 seconds to play, and the No. 11 Hoyas celebrated Senior Day on Saturday with a 55-52 victory over No. 12 Louisville in Washington.
In a tense game between teams tied for first place entering the final day of the regular season, Georgetown (25-4, 15-3) survived Louisville’s manic defense and made just enough plays to win. The Cardinals (24-7, 14-4) matched a season high with 14 steals, but they were undone by 4-for-18 shooting from 3-point range and 10-for-18 shooting from the free-throw line.
Freshman Austin Freeman upstaged the seniors by scoring 15 points for the Hoyas, who have won five straight, 12 of 14 and will be the No. 1 seed in next week’s conference tournament. Georgetown also has won 22 straight home games.
Terrence Williams scored 14 points for the Cardinals, who were seeking their first Big East regular-season title in their third year in the conference.
(2) Memphis 94, UAB 56: At Memphis, Tenn., Joey Dorsey had 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Tigers (30-1, 16-0) to a victory over the Blazers (22-9, 12-4) and a second straight perfect season in Conference USA.
(5) Kansas 72, Texas A&M 55: At College Station, Texas, Mario Chalmers and Darrell Arthur both scored 16 points and the Jayhawks (28-3, 13-3) clinched at least a share of the Big 12 regular-season title with a win over the Aggies (22-9, 8-8).
(8) Xavier 86, Richmond 61: At Cincinnati, B.J. Raymond scored 22 points, the Musketeers (26-5, 14-4) made 36 free throws and the Atlantic 10 regular-season champions defeated the Spiders (16-13, 9-7).
(10) Wisconsin 65, Northwestern 52: At Evanston, Ill., Brian Butch scored 20 points and matched his career high with 14 rebounds as the Badgers (26-4, 16-2) clinched the Big Ten regular-season title with a win over the Wildcats (8-21, 1-17).
(12) Butler 66, Illinois-Chicago 50: At Indianapolis, Mike Green scored 19 points to lead the Bulldogs (28-3) to a win over the Flames (18-15) in the semifinals of the Horizon League tournament.
Cincinnati at (13) Connecticut, ppd.: At Storrs, Conn., A winter snowstorm grounded Cincinnati in Ohio, forcing the game at Connecticut to be postponed until today.
Alabama 78, (16) Vanderbilt 73 (OT): At Tuscaloosa, Ala., Mykal Riley scored 26 points, to lead the Crimson Tide (16-15, 5-11 SEC) to a victory over the Commodores (25-6, 10-6).
(19) Notre Dame 67, South Florida 60: At Tampa, Fla., Luke Harangody scored 21 points and the Fighting Irish (24-6, 14-4 Big East) made four free throws in the closing seconds to hold off the Bulls (12-19, 3-15).
(20) Drake 75, Creighton 67: At St. Louis, Adam Emmenecker had 20 points and a career-high 11 assists to lead the Bulldogs (27-4) to the Missouri Valley Conference tournament final for the first time with the win over the Bluejays (21-10).
Syracuse 87, (21) Marquette 72: At Syracuse, N.Y., Donte Greene and Jonny Flynn both scored 21 points to lead the Orange (19-12, 9-9 Big East) to a victory over the Golden Eagles (22-8, 11-7).
(25) Davidson 82, Wofford 49: At North Charleston, S.C., Stephen Curry scored 19 points and the Wildcats (24-6) advanced to the Southern Conference tournament semifinals by beating the Terriers (16-16).
Ohio Valley
Austin Peay 82, Tennessee State 64: At Nashville, Tenn., Todd Babington scored 24 points and the Governors (24-10) earned a NCAA tournament berth by beating the Tigers (15-17) for the Ohio Valley Conference tournament title.
Big South
Winthrop 66, UNC Asheville 48: At Asheville, N.C., Michael Jenkins scored 33 points and the Eagles (22-11) beat the Bulldogs (23-9) for their eighth NCAA tournament berth in 10 years.
Atlantic Sun
Belmont 79, Jacksonville 61: At Nashville, Tenn., Shane Dansby scored 16 points to send the Bruins (25-8) to their third straight NCAA tournament with a victory over the Dolphins (18-13) in the Atlantic Sun tournament championship.
