TUESDAY

A new chairlift serving about seven ski and snowboard trails on the north and west sides of Mount Spokane is envisioned in a near-term development proposal for Mt. Spokane Ski and Snowboard Park.

•The price of oil gushed to a record high, spreading dangerously to factories, groceries, gas stations.

WEDNESDAY

Washington’s big three health insurers continued a run of annual profits in 2007 and socked away $266 million, swelling their surplus accounts to a combined $2.4 billion.

•Homeowners in Eastern Washington could pay Avista Corp. an extra $6.53 a month for electricity next year, if state regulators approve.

THURSDAY

Oil prices rose a remarkable $5 a barrel to a record of more than $104 after the government reported a surprise drop in crude oil stockpiles.

•Coldwater Creek Inc. reported a loss for 2007, its first ever.

•SRM Development LLC is moving forward with a condo tower proposed for the YWCA site in downtown Spokane.
