Legislators need wake-up call

The Spokesman-Review

I have been sorely disappointed by the lack of effort in Olympia to keep the Sonics in Seattle. Our legislators have been bullied and they are running away despite a proposed solution that includes an unprecedented $150 million civic donation and no new taxes.

This is what we’ve been waiting for. But Olympia keeps hiding behind threats the team is “unequivocally not for sale.”

By presenting the guise it is too late, they don’t have to take sides before re-election in November. What they refuse to acknowledge is the NBA Board of Governors must approve the relocation. If a viable plan is in place, the request will be denied and our Sonics will be saved.

Now is the time for action. Olympia needs a push.

Legislators need to be reminded we will hold them accountable for stalling. Please call Gov. Gregoire’s office and the legislative hotline. Encourage Olympia to pass this plan now.
