People: LaBeouf’s image is transforming

The next name to grace tabloid headlines likely could be Shia LaBeouf.

A $1,000 bench warrant was issued for LaBeouf on Tuesday after the star of “Transformers” and the upcoming “Indiana Jones” film failed to appear in court on a charge of lighting up where he shouldn’t.

The 21-year-old was cited last month for unlawful smoking, according to the warrant. He was scheduled to appear in a Los Angeles County courthouse Tuesday on the misdemeanor offense, but neither he nor his lawyer showed up.

LaBeouf’s squeaky-clean, low-profile image hardly suffered from a separate arrest late last year on a misdemeanor criminal trespassing charge for failing to leave a Chicago drugstore. Arresting police in that incident noted that LaBeouf was “very courteous and polite,” and the charge was dropped because the Walgreens store didn’t want to pursue the matter.

Berry new job: Mommy

Halle Berry has starred in several movies. Now she takes on the role of mother. The Oscar-winning actress, 41, gave birth on Sunday to a girl, Nahla Ariela Aubry, her publicist Meredith O’Sullivan told The Associated Press. Nahla’s father is model Gabriel Aubry, 32. Berry has said she and Aubry don’t plan to marry, but feel fully committed to each other.

CNN’s Cooper a real stitch

No, CNN’s Anderson Cooper didn’t get into a fracas. The stitches under his left eye are the result of an operation to remove a cancerous mole. He was back at work on Wednesday. “I hadn’t planned on mentioning this,” said Cooper, 40, on his blog. “But I still have stitches and you’ll no doubt notice them. … Don’t want you to think I got into a fistfight with Charlie Rose.”

It’s got good rhythm

Twisted Sister guitarist Jay Jay French is a big fan of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. So much so that he has rerecorded the heavy metal band’s anthem, “I Wanna Rock” ad “I Want Barack.” “He has excited so many people,” said French, who founded Twisted Sister in 1973. “He has given sincere hope to people who have been out of the arena for years.”

Don’t rhyme Lauer with sour

“Today” show co-anchor Matt Lauer is prepared to get ridiculed during a Friars Club celebrity roast set for Oct. 24. The Roastmaster is Lauer’s longtime colleague and friend Al Roker. “I fully plan to, like, bring an iPod in my sport jacket and run the headsets up to where they can’t see it into my ears so I won’t even hear half of it,” Lauer, 50, said. “But I will tell you right now: I’m not going to invite my mom or anything like that.”
