TV’s best bets: Musicals offered for Easter weekend

Mike Hughes Gannett News Service

Tonight’s must-see

“The Sound of Music” (1965), 7-11 p.m., Family; or “The Wizard of Oz” (1939), 5-6:45 p.m., Turner Classic Movies.

As the Easter weekend begins, family musicals collide.

We’d recommend “Oz,” because its story is more clever and for a practical reason: “Sound of Music” also airs Saturday and Sunday.

Still, either has soaring music and great visuals.

Tonight’s might-see

Basketball, all-day, CBS.

It’s the second day of the college basketball tournament, with action everywhere.

Specifics vary in each market, but one doubleheader starts at noon ET, the other at 7 p.m.

Other choices include

“King Arthur” (2004), 6 and 9 p.m., FX. The legend is re-told with Clive Owen as Arthur, Ioan Gruffudd as Lancelot and Keira Knightley (only 19 then) as Guinevere.

Skating, 4:30 p.m., ESPN. Here are the finals for ice dancing and the short program for women. Coverage moves to ABC at 3 p.m. ET Saturday, then ESPN at 4:30 p.m. ET Sunday.

“Grey’s Anatomy,” 8 p.m., ABC. In this rerun, Cristina realizes the Burke romance is over; his mom (Diahann Carroll) picks up his things. Also, there was an apartment fire and Callie is overwhelmed.

” ‘Til Death,” 8 p.m., Fox. New episodes are three weeks away, but this comedy returns to the lineup with reruns. Tonight, Eddie twice flubs a birthday present for his neighbor.

“Titanic” (1997), 8 p.m. to midnight, TNT. Here’s the night’s third classic. Visually powerful, it adds a fine romance of opposites.

“The Return of Jezebel James,” 8:30 p.m., Fox. Coco has her first gynecologist visit in years. Also, her sister scrambles to sign a teen author.

“House,” 9 p.m., Fox. In this rerun, an older doctor (Joel Grey) says he wants to die.

“20/20,” 9-11 p.m. ABC. Prostitutes, now back in the news, are interviewed.

“In Treatment,” 9:30 p.m., HBO. Last week (rerunning at 9), Paul learned his wife had more secrets. This time, she stays home; his therapist (Dianne Wiest) has revelations.
