Tech tidbit: ‘The invisible Web’

The Spokesman-Review

It’s not unusual to hear people write or talk about “the invisible Web.”

That term, coined in 1994 by freelance writer Jill Ellsworth, refers to sites that are not registered with any search engine.

“It would be a site that’s possibly reasonably designed, but they didn’t bother to register it with any of the search engines. So, no one can find them. I call that the invisible Web,” she wrote.
