Capitals get win; Ovechkin nets 61st goal

Viktor Kozlov scored in the third round of the shootout to lead the Washington Capitals past the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 on Tuesday night in Raleigh, N.C.

Alexander Ovechkin scored his club-record 61st goal, Alexander Semin also scored and Nicklas Backstrom had two assists for the Capitals.

Cristobal Huet made 25 saves and stopped Carolina’s three shooters. Kozlov then ended the shootout by skating in on Cam Ward and beating him with a wrist shot to his glove side.

Penguins 2, Devils 0: At Newark, N.J., Marc-Andre Fleury had 30 saves and Pittsburgh clinched a playoff berth beating New Jersey.

Ryan Malone scored a first-period power-play goal and Marian Hossa added one into an empty net for the Penguins.

Senators 6, Sabres 3: At Buffalo, N.Y., Daniel Alfredsson had two of Ottawa’s five third-period goals, and Anton Volchenkov snapped a third-period tie with less than 2 minutes left in regulation to rally Ottawa over the Sabres.

Panthers 3, Lightning 1: At Tampa, Fla., Jeff Halpern had a goal and an assist and the Lightning beat the Panthers.

Michel Ouellet scored 3 minutes into the first period for Tampa Bay.

Flyers 2, Rangers 1 (OT): At New York, Mike Richards scored a breakaway goal 2:16 into overtime and Philadelphia beat the Rangers.

Sean Avery turned over the puck in the New York zone to defenseman Jason Smith, who sent Richards in alone. With Rangers defenseman Marek Malik chasing, Richards cut to his backhand and swept a shot past Henrik Lundqvist.

Bruins 6, Maple Leafs 2: At Toronto, Marco Sturm and rookie David Krejci each had a goal and an assist and Boston beat the Maple Leafs.

Jeremy Reich, Phil Kessel, Shawn Thornton and Glen Murray also scored for the Bruins.

Predators 3, Blue Jackets 0: At Nashville, Tenn., goaltender Dan Ellis stopped 36 shots for his fifth career shutout, and the Predators beat Columbus.

Jan Hlavac and Jason Arnott each had a goal and an assist, and Radek Bonk added a goal for Nashville.

Red Wings 2, Blues 1: At St. Louis, Johan Franzen’s power-play goal snapped a third-period tie and Henrik Zetterberg added his 150th career goal, helping Detroit beat the Blues.

Andy McDonald scored in the second period for the Blues, who played their first home game in 22 days.

Flames 3, Canucks 2: At Calgary, Alberta, Daymond Langkow and Dion Phaneuf scored 41 seconds apart in the third period and the Flames rallied to beat Vancouver.

Jarome Iginla added his 49th of the season for Calgary.

Coyotes 5, Sharks 4 (OT): At Glendale, Ariz., Martin Hanzal scored on a wrist shot with 1:37 left in overtime to give Phoenix a win over San Jose.
