West’s shot lifts Hornets over Cavaliers

David West’s 17-foot jumper, coming on Chris Paul’s 20th assist, with less than a second left gave the New Orleans Hornets their fifth straight win, 100-99 over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday night in Cleveland.

Peja Stojakovic scored 25 points, West added 20 points and Paul 15 for the Hornets, who came in with the Western Conference’s best record.

Zydrunas Ilgauskas tallied 29 points with 15 rebounds for the Cavs. James had 21 points and eight assists.

Celtics 117, Suns 97: At Boston, Kevin Garnett scored 30 points and Paul Pierce had 12 of his 27 in the fourth quarter to lead the Celtics over Phoenix.

Hornets 108, Lakers 95: At Los Angeles, Jason Richardson had 34 points and 10 rebounds, and Charlotte stunned Los Angeles in a game in which Kobe Bryant drew two technical fouls in a span of 29 seconds late in the fourth quarter and was ejected.

Raptors 89, Pistons 82: At Toronto, Chris Bosh scored 21 points and T.J. Ford had 13 points and nine assists as the Raptors topped Detroit.

Hawks 115, Bucks 96: At Atlanta, Joe Johnson scored 28 points, Josh Childress added 20 and the Hawks beat Milwaukee to maintain the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

76ers 121, Bulls 99: At Philadelphia, Lou Williams scored 23 points and Andre Miller had a season-high 18 assists as the 76ers routed Chicago.

Spurs 97, Clippers 88: At San Antonio, Tim Duncan had 26 points and 12 rebounds and the Spurs withstood a late rally to beat Los Angeles for their fifth straight victory.

Kings 107, Grizzlies 106 (OT): At Sacramento, Calif., Kevin Martin scored 36 points and made two free throws in the closing seconds of overtime to send the Kings over Memphis.

Nets 124, Pacers 117: At East Rutherford, N.J., Devin Harris had 22 points and a career-best 15 assists and New Jersey kept pace with Atlanta for the final playoff berth in the Eastern Conference with a win over Indiana.

Rockets 97, Timberwolves 86: At Houston, Tracy McGrady scored 13 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter and Luis Scola had 18 points and a career-high 18 rebounds as the Rockets beat Minnesota.

Knicks 103, Heat 96 (OT): At New York, Jamal Crawford scored 24 points and the Knicks ended their longest home losing streak – seven – in nearly 45 years by beating Miami in overtime.

Chris Webber announced his retirement from the NBA, bowing to a knee injury that cut short his comeback attempt with Golden State. … Portland guard Brandon Roy will miss tonight’s game at Golden State and it’s likely he’ll be out longer because a groin injury. … The Illinois Supreme Court said it would not hear an appeal in the long-running legal dispute between retired Chicago superstar Michael Jordan and an Indianapolis woman. Jordan and Karla Knafel went to court in 2002 after she claimed he agreed in 1991 to pay her $5 million when he retired to keep an affair secret. DNA tests later showed her child wasn’t Jordan’s. … A judge in Bradenton, Fla., dismissed a request for a restraining order filed by former NBA referee Tim Donaghy’s estranged wife because she did not attend a court hearing. Records show Kimberly Donaghy did not appear at a hearing after requesting protection against her husband last week. She stated that he threatened to hit her during an argument and abused their four children.
