The top seed played a top-shelf game Thursday night, and it spelled the end to Washington State’s notable run in the NCAA Tournament.

The Cougars, making their first Sweet 16 appearance in school history, were eliminated with a 68-47 loss to North Carolina in Charlotte, N.C.

The win propelled the Tar Heels (35-2) into the round of eight for the second consecutive year. The Cougars finished 26-9 after hitting only 18 field goals – including 2 of 16 from 3-point range – and scoring 20 points below their season average.

Derrick Low and Aron Baynes scored 14 points apiece to lead Washington State.
