Cheney Crime blotter

CHENEY – The Cheney Police Department is looking for a man who pulled a shotgun from a bag and demanded a woman’s purse around 8:45 p.m. April 20.

The man is described as a 6 feet tall, white and 19 or 20 years old with dark hair and dark eyes. He was wearing a blue hat and a red bandanna, a blue denim jacket and blue jeans and was carrying a blue duffel bag.

The incident happened near West Third and J Streets in Cheney. The man fled toward West First and J streets after taking the purse. Police did not release information about what was stolen.

The Spokane Police Department searched the area with a K-9 unit. The Medical Lake and Eastern Washington University police departments and the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office also provided assistance.

The woman was not injured.

April 18

“Police arrested two men on warrants at the 2200 block of First Street. Rick L. Schattler, 42, was arrested on a warrant in a local felony and on a warrant issued by the U.S. Marshals Service. A 17-year-old male was arrested on warrants for a burglary charge, allegedly giving false or misleading statements to the police and alleged possession of drug paraphernalia.

“A turquoise bicycle was found at the 700 block of Chestnut Street.

“A residential burglary was reported at the 3100 block of Normal Park Road. Credit cards and identification were reported stolen.

April 19

“Police responded to a report of a third-degree misdemeanor at the 100 block of Sixth Street. A group of people were shooting at cans with BB guns and shattered the window of a residence.

“There was a report of a theft at Rosa’s Pizza on the 1700 block of Second Street. A black bicycle was stolen.

April 20

“Jonathan M. Daniels, 34, was arrested for suspicion of driving with a suspended license at the 1100 block of Betz Road.

“Police responded to a report of a burglary at the 800 block of West First Street. Video games and ammunition were reported missing.

“There was a report of theft at the 2300 block of Al Ogden Way. A window of a vehicle was smashed and an iPod adapter was stolen.

“A car stereo was reported missing in a theft at the 500 block of Second Street.

April 21

“Someone threw a bag of garbage on a car and some bottles in the bag did some damage at the 1300 block of First Street. Police listed the incident as a report of malicious mischief.

“There was a report of theft at the 200 block of Betz Road. An iPod with an armband was taken from a vehicle.

“Police responded to a report of theft at the 500 block of G Street. A dark blue bicycle was reported stolen.

“Michael L. Barnes, 48, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia at the 2000 block of First Street.

April 22

“A bronze key was found at the 200 block of Third Street.

“Police performed an outside agency warrant arrest at the municipal courthouse. Cody M. Vermillion, 23, was arrested for suspicion of violating a protection order out of Spokane.

“A 16-year-old male was arrested at Cheney High School on suspicion of carrying a weapon on school property. Police say the teen was in possession of an AirSoft pistol and a folding knife.

“There was a domestic violence report at the 3300 block of Thistle Creek Lane. Joel G. Pence, 61, was taken into custody on suspicion of fourth-degree assault.

April 23

“Justin X. Taylor, 34, was arrested for suspicion of driving with a suspended license at the 1300 block of First Street. He was also charged with suspicion of being in possession of a dangerous weapon. Cmdr. Rick Campbell said Taylor was carrying a set of brass knuckles.

“There was a report of malicious mischief at the 3000 block of Silverthorn Lane. Campbell said some no-parking signs were tagged with graffiti.

“Police responded to a report of theft at the 300 block of College. A back window of a vehicle was smashed and CDs were stolen.

April 24

“There was a parking complaint made to police at the 800 block of Third Street. One vehicle was touching another vehicle.

“A lost parrot was found in Cheney and was turned over to a private bird rescue in Spokane. If you are missing your parrot, contact the Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service at 477-2532.

“There was a report of a residential burglary at the 1700 block of Second Street. Nothing was taken, but a window was left open and someone had rummaged through the resident’s belongings.
