San Francisco scored five runs in the fourth inning and held off host Gonzaga 7-5 in West Coast Conference action Friday night.
Mitchell Bialosky and Zach Kim hit back-to-back home runs in the fourth inning for USF (27-20, 9-7).
Ryan Wiegand led Gonzaga (27-19, 7-8) with a home run, double and three RBIs.
•Gonzaga’s Cody Martin, a freshman pitcher from Dos Palos, Calif., was named to the watch list for the Roger Clemens Award, given annually to the top pitcher in college baseball.
Martin, who has a 2.03 earned run average and eight saves, is one of five rookies on the list.
•Washington’s Brian Pearl caused Grant Green to fly out with the bases loaded to preserve a 5-4 Pacific-10 Conference win for the Huskies over USC in Los Angeles.
Kyle Conley led the Huskies (26-16, 6-7) with two doubles, a triple and two RBIs. Green went 2 for 4 with an RBI for the Trojans (21-23, 7-9).
Rowing
Gonzaga’s women won its 11th West Coast Conference championship in 12 years by sweeping all three races at the conference tournament in Sacramento, Calif.
Gonzaga scored 30 points and won its races by an average of 11 seconds. San Diego finished in second place with 24 points.
Joan Aubry, Kelsey Koenig, Hanna McClintock and Kelly Steinhaus were named to the WCC All-Conference rowing team for the Bulldogs and Melissa Flint was named coach of the year.
Softball
CC Spokane dropped a 2-1 decision in the first game of an NWAACC doubleheader at Walla Walla, but rebounded for a 2-0 win in the second game.
For the Sasquatch (25-13, 17-5), Heather Coulter gave up a combined one run and five hits during the day and Ashley Fargher went 4 for 4 with two RBIs. Katelin Bersing scored the go-ahead run in the first game for Walla Walla (32-14, 17-5).
•Following a 10-0 win earlier in the day against Snow College, North Idaho was eliminated from the NJCAA Region 18 tournament with a 3-0 loss to Southern Nevada in Taylorsville, Utah.
In NIC’s loss, Amy Aicher, a freshman from Snohomish, Wash., hit a three-run home run in the third inning for the Coyotes (28-26).
In the first game, Kristen Burtch went 4 for 4 with a double, home run and four RBIs for NIC (35-20-2).
•Katie Burkhart had 12 strikeouts to lead Arizona State to a 3-0 win over Washington in Pacific-10 Conference action in Seattle.
Washington (26-19-1, 5-10) fell into a 2-0 hole in the first inning after Aleah Macon walked in two runners with bases-loaded walks for the Sun Devils (53-3, 15-1).
Katie Crabb hit a solo home run to left field for ASU in the fourth inning.
Alicia Blake and Ashlyn Watson both went 2 for 4 for the Huskies.
Women’s tennis
Kasey Knox and Kerstyn Dolack of Eastern Washington received second-team All-Big Sky Conference accolades. The duo helped lead the Eagles to their first postseason win in 14 years.
Men’s tennis
Eastern Washington’s Pannhara Mam, Nico Riego de Dios and Kyle Schrader earned first-team All-Big Sky Conference honors for helping the Eagles set school records in wins (18), conference wins (seven) and winning streak (nine). Art Karas received honorable mention All-Big Sky honors for EWU.
Football
The New York Jets signed rookie free agent and former Washington State DE Ropati Pitoitua.
•Former Spokane Shock defensive back Rob Keefe was signed by the Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League.
