People: He might want to couch his words
It may have made him the butt of jokes, but Tom Cruise says he’s not sure he’d take back his couch-jumping proclamation of love for Katie Holmes on Oprah Winfrey‘s talk show.
“That was a moment, and it was real, and I don’t know if I would (do it differently). I really don’t,” Cruise told Winfrey in an interview taped at his Telluride, Colo., home.
Holmes welcomed Winfrey to the couple’s home at the top of the show that aired Friday, then left Cruise to conduct a tour, which included a peek at daughter Suri‘s playrooms.
On other topics, Cruise said:
•His comments criticizing Brooke Shields‘ use of drugs to battle post-partum depression “came out wrong.”
Whatever his personal beliefs, Cruise said, “It’s an individual’s right to make a decision on what they’re going to do with their life.”
•An Internet video showing him extolling the virtues of Scientology was taken “totally out of context,” because it was specifically made for a Scientology event.
Scientology “respect(s) the religious beliefs of others,” he said. “That’s part of being a Scientologist, and that’s who I am as a person.”
A Mickey Mouse move?
Miley Cyrus skipped a media event at Disney World on Friday, her first scheduled public appearance since the flap over suggestive photos of the teen idol in Vanity Fair.
The 15-year-old “Hannah Montana” star did spend some time at the resort Thursday, signing autographs for children and taking photos with Mickey and Minnie Mouse.
Some Carey-Cannon fodder
Actor Nick Cannon, cast as Mariah Carey‘s lover in her new music video, might be playing her husband in real life.
According to several published reports, Carey, 38, married Cannon, 27, on Wednesday, though their respective reps declined comment.
Carey was seen sporting a huge diamond at Saturday’s Tribeca Film Festival premiere of “Tennessee,” in which she plays a waitress.
Another Lowe blow
Just when we thought the Rob Lowe saga couldn’t get any sleazier, a former nanny tearfully claims the actor’s wife walked around naked in front of her and repeatedly made crude comments about her boyfriend’s genitals.
Laura Boyce, who filed a sexual harassment suit against Sheryl Lowe on Wednesday, is one of three former employees the Lowes sued last month for breach of contract and defamation.
Not too sharp, dude
Finally, a fan on trial for stalking Uma Thurman says there’s a perfectly rational explanation for sending her a card with a drawing of an open grave, a headstone and a man standing on the edge of a razor blade.
“I felt I was walking the razor’s edge. I felt that it reflected this relationship that I unfortunately imaged we had,” Jack Jordan testified Friday, adding: “This cartoon was meant to amuse her, to endear me to her.”
