Mets 12, Dodgers 1: At Los Angeles, John Maine became the first New York starter this year to reach the eighth inning, taking a shutout into the ninth as the Mets routed the Dodgers. Luis Castillo, David Wright and Raul Casanova each drove in two runs as the Mets scored 10 earned runs off Brad Penny in 4 2/3 innings.

Braves 5, Padres 2: At Atlanta, pinch-hitter Greg Norton broke a seventh-inning tie with a bases-loaded single and the Braves beat San Diego for their fifth straight win.

Pirates 3, Giants 1: At Pittsburgh, Xavier Nady hit a two-run homer and Phil Dumatrait pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings for his first career win, leading the Pirates over San Francisco. Giants starter Barry Zito fell to 0-7.

Reds 9, Cubs 0: At Cincinnati, Jon Lieber became only the second pitcher in Cubs history to give up four homers in an inning, and Joey Votto connected three times in all as the Reds whipped Chicago.

Marlins 6, Brewers 2: At Miami, rookie Burke Badenhop pitched 5 2/3 innings for his first major league victory and Florida handed Milwaukee its fifth straight loss.

Astros 4, Nationals 3: At Houston, Carlos Lee singled home Kaz Matsui in the bottom of the ninth inning to send the Astros past Washington. Ryan Zimmerman homered twice for the Nats.

Rockies 4, Cardinals 3: At Denver, Chris Iannetta tripled home two runs off Jason Isringhausen to cap a four-run eighth and carry Colorado past St. Louis.

Phillies 5, Diamondbacks 4: At Phoenix, Chase Utley singled in the go-ahead run in the eighth and Philadelphia rallied to beat Arizona.
