Hunting+Fishing

Alan Liere The Spokesman-Review

It seems that after being out of circulation for so long, anglers have forgotten how good the trout fishing can be at Sprague Lake. At Sprague Lake Resort, Monika Metz reported lots of trout for few anglers. She said limits come quickly right from shore, most of the fish more than 16 inches.

Most of the put-and-take lowland lakes around Spokane are providing good fishing, although the trout are slightly smaller than in past years.

On Coeur d’Alene, the kokanee bite is just beginning near East Point.

Salmon

Spring chinook have not shown up yet in good numbers on the Snake and Clearwater Rivers, but fish are coming in, and it still looks like a banner season ahead. At Starbuck, Verna Foley at Darver Tackle said 16 keepers were taken off “the wall” on Monday. Approximately 650 fish were counted at Little Goose and 485 at Lower Granite on Tuesday. The count over Little Goose rose to 1,039 and at Lower Granite to 592 on Wednesday.

Adult spring chinook catch rates for boat anglers in the Cowlitz, Kalama, Lewis, Wind and Drano during the first week of May were the lowest since at least 2001.
