N.Y. Philharmonic plays in North Korea

Mike Hughes Gannett News Service

Tonight’s choices include

“Special Investigations Unit: Notes from North Korea,” 5 and 8 p.m., CNN.

Lisa Kim’s father once hid in the mountains, to avoid being in the North Korean army. Now, ironically, she’s a violinist in the New York Philharmonic, which had a historic concert in North Korea.

Kim is part of a documentary filled with contrasts. Christiane Amanpour — who spent eight years trying to get into North Korea — views a token effort at openness, in a country that has arrested people for performing anything except authorized songs.

Basketball preview, 5 p.m., and game, 5:15, ABC. The Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers collide in a second-round NBA playoff game.

“Saturday Night Live,” 11:29 p.m., NBC. Shia LaBeouf hosts, with My Morning Jacket as the musical guest.

Sunday’s choices include

“Survivor,” 8 p.m., and follow-up, 10, CBS. This has been an odd, messy, and altogether fascinating edition of “Survivor.” Two people left early because of injuries, one because of weariness. Two more asked to be voted out; they were.

Schemes and surprises kept popping up. Two people were ousted after failing to play the immunity idol; one coveted a fake idol he thought was real. This has been an intriguing bunch of schemers. Tonight, one gets $1 million.

“Desperate Housewives,” 9 p.m., ABC. Last week, Bree threw out Orson, but he didn’t go far. Now he’s at Edie’s house; tonight, the two women are at war.

“Caught on Safari: Battle at Kruger,” 9 p.m., National Geographic. An eight-minute video has become a You Tube hit, showing three forces – lions, a crocodile and water buffalo – battling over a young buffalo.

“Brothers and Sisters” season finale, 10:02 p.m., ABC. Sarah learns yet another secret about her late father. Meanwhile, Kevin and Scotty have their commitment ceremony.
