Post Falls’ earliest history will be celebrated Wednesday at the Q’emiln Quest at Q’emiln Riverside Park.

The event, sponsored by the Post Falls Historical Society, will feature Coeur d’Alene tribal linguist Raymond Brinkman, the Rose Creek Sunset Singers and an oral history of the park and its surroundings from lifelong Post Falls resident Mary McCormick Hughes.

Students who take part in the quest will be given medallions celebrating the legend of Q’emiln.

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Bring a lunch.

Annual plant sale Saturday

The Master Gardener and Friends annual plant sale will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 608 N. Spokane St. in Post Falls.

A variety of flowers, vegetables, bird houses and garden items will be available.

Jacklin Arts hosting events

On Friday, the Jacklin Arts and Culture Center at The Old Church, 405 William Street in Post Falls, will host two events.

The first is the opening reception for the Post Falls Artist Exhibition and will begin at 5 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public. The exhibition will run through June 8.

The second is a North Idaho Tour of the Idaho Dance Theater. The show will begin at 7:30. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door, and $10 for students and seniors.

Poetry fundraiser benefits Lions

The Rathdrum Lions Club will host a fundraiser Saturday, at Lakeland High School, beginning at 7 p.m., featuring cowboy and cowgirl poets, along with musicians Jim Aasen, Maxine Larson, Eric Larson, Howard Norskog, Virgil Sears and Jim Bullard.

Proceeds will benefit the Rathdrum Lions’ sight and hearing van, a health fair, parks, among other Lions’ charitable causes.

Tickets are $12 at the door or $10 from a Lions Club member.

Tour homes in Fort Sherman

The first annual Fort Sherman Home Tours will be held Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., beginning at the Human Rights Education Institute, 414 W. Mullan Road. Five homes will be featured.

Tickets are $35 and can be purchased at the Institute.

Lilac Parade Saturday

The 70th Annual Armed Forces Torchlight Parade will be held Saturday at 7:45 p.m. along the streets of downtown Spokane.

This year’s theme is “Salute to Service” and will feature the 2008 Lilac Court of Queen Sarah Crowley and Princesses Kylee Denevan, Alexandra Cozza, Kaylee Van Gelder, Marilis Earle, Jeannette Thompson and Alyssa Robinson.

The parade will feature marching bands, military units, and notable local people.

It will also be broadcasted on Comcast Channel 79 starting at 7:45 p.m.
