Rogers selects Wood
Tim Wood, an assistant at Rogers for four years, has been named new head boys basketball coach of the Pirates.
The 1995 Shadle Park graduate replaces Brian Kissinger, who resigned at the end of the 2008 season.
“Part of the beauty, is he is on staff and you have to have that to have connections with the kids,” said Rogers activities coordinator Eric Anderson. “He has great rapport, a lot of energy and is passionate about basketball.”
Wood said his goal was always to be a head coach and he pursued it after working a few years following high school. He graduated from Washington State University in 2005, did his student teaching at Rogers and has been a special education instructor there since.
“I’m going to move forward and continue what (Brian) built,” said Wood. “Obviously, I have my own concepts, but he did a good job and I don’t want to change too much. The program is a lot better off that it was four or five years ago.”
Wood played for Darcy Weisner at Shadle, averaging just less than seven points a game his senior year.
“I’m very excited,” he said of his coaching opportunity. “I want to have a team that plays hard, works its tail off, have them be good students and maintain what we’ve been doing.”
