Rathdrum article not appreciated
(Editor’s note: This letter was inadvertently omitted from the May 3 edition of the Handle Extra)
The recent column, Get Out! by Patrick Jacobs was a superficial, drive-by character assassination of our city. It was not appreciated.
I have been in the community for only two years now, but have found Rathdrum to be a wonderful community with a rich history. The comments that were made about the downtown were not correct. Most of the buildings do not sit empty, the so-called renovated building that was mentioned is a beautiful new building designed to fit in with the character of the downtown. The city in recent years has added new sidewalks, street trees and character lighting in the old downtown to go along with numerous historic buildings including the old County Jail built in 1890 and the oldest brick Catholic church in Idaho built around 1900.
The city is nestled at the base of beautiful Rathdrum Mountain and still retains its small-town charm.
Rathdrum sits at a location that allows good access to Spokane and Coeur d’Alene without the same traffic. While we have other great restaurants in town, the one thing I would agree with Mr. Jacobs is the great hamburgers at Burger Heaven.
While not perfect, we are proud of our city and would expect more from a local paper.
