When: Today, field events 9:30 a.m., running noon; Saturday, 9:15-4:30 p.m.

Defending team champions: Riverside Christian boys, Northwest Christian (Lacey) girls in 2B; Odessa boys and Trout Lake girls in 1B.

Local contenders: The Lind-Ritzville and St. George’s boys, along with Tacoma Baptist, should make a run at RC. The St. George’s girls could have a trophy shot against NWC-L, RC, TB and La Salle. Odessa is heavily favored to repeat and St. John-Endicott is in the trophy hunt for boys. Trout Lake is also a heavy favorite to repeat with Northport a trophy possibility.

Top 2A individuals: Lind-Ritzville is the top-seeded 1,600 relay with Erik Hille the 2B leader in the shot and a contender in the discus, Alex Pfeifer the third seed in the 400 and Cory Whitmore a threat to win the high jump. All of St. George’s points are on the track with Blaine Nicholls, Tyler Evans, Wyatt Orme and Brian Angrove the top individual threats who are part of strong relays. Jeff Pope of Valley Christian is the top seed in the 800 and 1,600. … On the girls’ side, hurdler and 200 runner Ashley Stabl of Tekoa-Oakesdale/Rosalia is the big name. St. George’s Katie Reidy could challenge in the 800-1,600 and Northwest Christian’s Lisa Vanderburg has the fastest qualifying time in the 3,200. Teara Cornmesser of Liberty had the top qualifying throw in the shot put.

Top 1A individuals: Matt Cronrath (800-1,600) leads the charge for Odessa, which also has the top 1,600 relay. Sprinter/hurdler Travis King, distance runners Scott Strang and Josh Allen, quarter-miler Jacob Schmidt and a host of potential in field events helps the Tigers. SJE sprinter Roy Tubio is the 200 leader with teammate Neil Miller, a hurdler, second in the 110s and Warren Miller No. 1 in the long jump. … Kaprina Goodwin of Northport is worth 40 points if she protects her top seeding and defends her titles in both hurdles and horizontal jumps. … LaCrosse-Washtucna has the top-seeded 400 relay.
