Pirates 8, Brewers 4: At Pittsburgh, Jason Bay and Xavier Nady homered and the Pirates beat Milwaukee to avoid a series sweep. The Brewers are 22-43 in PNC Park, the worst record of any opposing team. Tom Gorzelanny (4-4) helped himself get the victory, driving in a run.

Braves 4, Mets 2: At Atlanta, Johan Santana couldn’t stop the Braves from completing a four-game sweep of New York. Chipper Jones drove in the go-ahead run during a three-run seventh inning. The Mets have lost seven of 10 games, dropping to less than .500 for the first time since April 13.

Marlins 4, Diamondbacks 0: At Miami, Florida swept Arizona in a three-game showdown of first-place teams. Andrew Miller (4-3) limited the Diamondbacks to five hits in seven innings. Throwing a fastball that peaked at 98 mph, he had a career-high nine strikeouts and allowed only one runner to reach second base.

Phillies 7, Astros 5: At Houston, Pat Burrell and Ryan Howard homered, and Brad Lidge earned a save against his former team as Philadelphia beat Houston. Howard also had an RBI double and Lidge improved to 12 for 12 in save chances by getting Lance Berkman to pop up for the final out.

Padres 8, Reds 2: At San Diego, Khalil Greene hit two solo home runs, and Adrian Gonzalez and Kevin Kouzmanoff hit two-run shots in the Padres’ win over Cincinnati. Ken Griffey Jr. hit a two run shot in the first inning for the Reds – his first in 90 at-bats, the second-longest homerless drought of his career.
